Today the
idea of purr therapy is being transformed from domestic practice into a fully
functioning growing business. The world’s first cat café opened its doors in
the Taiwanese capital in 1998. Soon the idea was adopted in Japan and attracted
more and more local and foreign visitors. Eventually the idea of a cat café got
a global recognition. Since the beginning of 2013 a variety of such cafés have
opened all over Europe. In France, “Le café des chats” utilize an innovative
strategy by welcoming formerly homeless cats. This technique gathered a record
number of clients during the opening weekend and ensured the reservations for
the next two months.
The Purrfect Heaven
If you are
a cat lover, but you can’t own a pet, whether it is due to your lifestyle or
lack of space at home, this kind of café is made for you. But let’s forget for
a moment about the inconveniences of a small apartment or long working hours,
which would prohibit a person from purchasing or adopting a feline. Even if you
do not have such difficulties, being a full-time “parent” to a cat could be too
complicated for you. You could be unprepared for such a commitment and
responsibility, one of your family members could suffer from allergies, or you
could simply dislike the idea of tending to a litter box. That’s why you might enjoy going to this
café, where you can drink your hot chocolate in a kitty filled space, relax and
enjoy the oasis of calamity.
The idea of
a “cat café” has proven to be a very successful market strategy. There is a
variety of clientele for this type of business. It is appealing for parents with
children, who do not have the possibility of keeping a cat at home, but would
like their children to have the experience of interacting with animals. On the
other hand, there is also the market of working people who would like to have a
quick relaxation session. Finally, cat cafés prove to be a notable attraction
for tourists all over the world.

May be Purr
Therapy does not sound serious at first, but it’s important to know that cats
have a real therapeutic power.
It is known
that the sounds that a cat produces have positive effects on the human body and
contribute to the prevention and treatment of many diseases. Researchers have found
that a certain type of cat purr (27 to 44 Hz) strengthens bones up to 20%.
Also, the purring of cat has a beneficial effect on people’s nervous system and
their mental state. Moreover, the sound coming in this diapason improves human
cerebral blood circulation, normalizes blood pressure and stabilizes heart
rhythm.
When there
is a disharmony in the human body and someone feels pain, it is due to the
changes of the energy potential in the body. Cats feel this potential change,
and are for unknown reasons, the only representatives of mammals who can absorb
a certain amount of negative energy.
Combine business with pleasure
Now you
know the secret of success in such a café. During these winter days, nothing
could possibly be better than the place where you can read, drink a hot drink
and benefit from cats’ "purr therapy". And if you are traveling to
Tokyo, try to find some time to visit the first Cat Pub in the world - a unique
experience is guaranteed.
Neymat
Neymat,
ReplyDeleteI already knew the benefits of purring but I never heard about “cat café”. I find this concept brilliant and very original! Despite the fact that a lot of people would certainly restrict cats to the role of mice hunters, I am convinced that they can help fighting stress, insomnia and anxiety. I already experienced this with my cat because when I am anxious I have just to lie down next to him and as soon as I hear his purring I feel much better! In addition, I think that cats can help filling a lack of affection as they are a presence which is constantly looking for someone to play with or to cuddle.

Dear Charlotte,
DeleteBefore I was very skeptic about this kind of things and now I have changed my mind. When I’m feeling sick or sad my cat comes and starts to purr. It is like an energetic exchange after which I feel myself much better.
Hi Neymat,
ReplyDeleteI actually had the chance to quickly visit the one in Tokyo, and I found it a really interesting concept.
But isn't this huge success making it become more and more like a tourist attraction than a therapy now ? Can it actually still be considered as a real therapy against stress when these places are often filled with people ?
Christophe A.
Dear Christophe,
DeleteYour question about tourists’ attraction is very interesting. In my opinion, for the moment this kind of cafés is sure an attraction for tourists, but it’s normal, because everything new and innovative catches the attention of people.
Concerning your question about therapy, I know that when people play with pets they put the stress away and fill them up with a positive energy.
Neymat,
ReplyDeleteThe idea of writing an article on "cat café" is really great, because in recent years, in many countries is an increasingly popular idea.
I had also the chance to visit one in Saint-Petersburg. This café was actually very successful and to get inside, I was obliged to wait 1 week! I explain myself. As the café has a significant number of clients, the café uses an appointment system. Therefore, clients can call the café and make an appointment for one or maximum 3 hours. In that way, the number of clients can be limited by hour.
Christophe, I think that these details can answer one of your question. This type of café, generally, try to adopt a strategy to limit their clients without losig them. This system gives to clients the possibility to relax, to forget about their problems and enjoy the presence of cats.
By the way, according to psychologists, cats recover the negative energies, that's why the "cat café" it's a nice idea!
