How to lunch an influencer marketing strategy?

Before finding the influencers, a clear marketing strategy is fundamental.

If you are responsible for a company’s influencer marketing, then you should ask these questions before you start:

1. What is your goal?

Set up a campaign goal and define the reasons why you want to work with influencers. Is it  to increase sales, build brand awareness, engage more people, or reinforce brand image? Which product or service do you want to promote?

2. What’s your budget?

How much do you want to spend and under what forms? Will you pay influencers by cash or offering them your products or services? How many free samples do you want to send out?

3. Which platform to use?

Analyse different platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok etc., to make choices based on your needs. When entering a foreign market, the local social media platforms should be considered such as WeChat and YouKu. In China, most of the western platforms are banned.

4.  Who are my targeted influencers?

The influencers are classified by the number of followers. Do research before choosing them. Use audience demographic features to verify if the influencers have the right and active audiences. Choose relevant and value matching influencers to collaborate with and check the publishing frequency of high-quality content to keep their audiences engaged.

5. Work together with your influencers and track the results

Define how you want to reach the influencers and manage to maintain good relationships with different influencers. Be patient and follow up the results of your campaign to check if it worked well for your company. This will help to adjust your marketing strategy.

    1. Thank you for your comment. I think it has seen a lot the situation you mentioned of influencer promotes poor quality products to its followers. The ultimate goal for companies using this new marketing tool is still in the end to gain profit. I think those influencers who promote poor quality products will lose its followers' loyalty and the marketing won't work long for them. A smart influencer would avoid this blind promotion. (Jing C)

  2. Hello Jing! I loved your article! Nowadays, reality shows influencers or Instagram influencers work for many companies and promote their products on social media. However, some influencers only take the money from the company but don’t promote well enough the products. How can companies be sure that the influencers will promote their products? Do you think that companies can really trust these influencers?

    1. Thanks for your question. From my point of view, whether the influencer well finished her promotion task or not can be measured by different tools. As I mentioned above, companies should always track the results of the influencer marketing. Companies can ask influencers to provide a graphic of the relative posts, meanwhile analyse the customer flow of their own websites or online shops.

    1. Thank you, Adeline, for your comment! Yes, I did buy some products after seeing influencers' posts. For example, I bought same colours of lipsticks and same clothes as influencers mentioned. I felt they were trustable, and their posts are often more vivid with different "try-on" videos.
